Rainer Lagemann, The Master of Form

As seen in The Villager on October 13th, 2023. Article by Avalon Ashley Bellos

Rainer Lagemann is recognized as the ‘Master of Form’ in this week’s article in The Villager. Born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1959, Lagemann developed his career in the arts through welding. This paved the way for his sculptural brilliance, mastering in the human form and the motion of humans. His synergetic sculptures are made of geometric formations of steel, displaying ethereal beings flying, dancing, diving, running, casting rays of light among the spaces they are installed.

Each work that Lagemann creates is imbued with inherent dynamism; the steel transforms through a spectrum of poses, suspended from ceilings, windows and walls. “Lagemann ushers the viewer into a visual smorgasbord of virtually boundless scenarios, ingeniously contrived to awaken and challenge the reservoir of his creative facilities” (A. Bellos, 25). Rainer continues to challenge the rhythmic sense of human movement, emotion and space with his powerful metal sculptures and is an artist that will elevate both a space and a collection.
