Jonathan Paul, also known as Desire Obtain Cherish, emerged as a defining figure in the realm of street art during the early 2000s. His artistic style spans from street art to pop art to conceptual works to appropriation art, distinguished by sculptural figurines of consumerism.

Using cast resin as a medium, D.O.C. works from a satirical stance towards societal norms and bases of consumer culture, creating pieces that allude materialism. For instance, some of his better known series are “Designer Drugs (20130” and “Heresy’s Cross (2013)”, the first depicting luxury brand logos on pill packets, and the second comprised of crucifixes crafted from melting Hershey’s chocolate bars.

His background in design and theory has equipped him with a better lens to interpret human desires and the phenomenons of our culture. Avalon Bellos states, “D.O.C adopts a self-effacing stance, a posture of humility that veils the magnitude of his artistic achievements. His sculptures and paintings, often playful and colorful, conceal a biting critique of our relentless pursuit of pleasure and perfection” (p. 23).

Works of D.O.C’s are currently on display at all DTR Modern Gallery Palm Beach.
