Hunt Slonem’s artistic style, German expressionism, was born in the early 20th century. An art form that emphasizes the artist’s inner feelings, ideas or notions, over the replication of reality. Hunt Slonem has naturally confounded the sentiment of German expressionism with abstraction and the emotional enterprise of color. Known for his vibrant paintings of birds, butterflies and bunnies, Slonem has had a prominent voice in the art market for decades.
Slonem has a deep passion for nature, animals and exotic surroundings, and his work is a direct influence from that. After nearly five decades of countless solo exhibitions, museum takeovers, gallery showcases and more, Hunt Slonem is one of the most recognizable artists in the world today.
With bold colors, thick brushstrokes, and a devoted repetition, Slonem has an iconic touch. He uses the back of the paint brush, carving into the layered oil paint and the revealing complexity of his artistic application. Like the exotic birds that inhabit his home, this technique gives a caged-like feeling to the artworks — another signature for this icon. Hunt continues to shed light on a unique form of abstraction and expression. Modern and iconic, Hunt Slonem is a jewel of any collection.
