Unveiling Mindscapes with James Verbicky

As seen in The Villager on September 1st, 2023. Article by Avalon Ashley Bellos

James Verbicky is a trailblazing artist, focusing on the exploration of collective memory, defying categorization and unveiling multidimensional expressions of the human experience. “His work is a symphony of intellect, emotion, and imagination, casting a spell that draws us into the intricate interplay of colors, forms, textures and the persistence of memory” (A. Bellos).

Originally from Canada, Verbicky was able to venture across the border and relocate to the U.S. after being granted a green card through his deep engagement with numerous American museums, galleries, charities, and publications. Notably, in 2008, his art earned distinction in a venerable 110-year-old juried Louvre exhibition in Paris, France.

Verbicky works with an array of mediums to depict this ‘mindscape’ theme of memory and the human experience. From canvas to wood, from resin to found objects, each medium is not just a surface for his art but a necessary layer that adds to his artistic mission. It is this layered approach of consciousness that illustrates his profound talent and differentiates him in the art world.
