We are pleased to announce our partnership with singer-songwriter and profound expressionist painter, John Mellencamp. We celebrated the integration of his works into our collection on Tuesday, November 7th, at DTR Modern Galleries in SoHo. The exhibit was open to select VIP collectors, where we showcased 13 pieces by Mellencamp, oil paints ranging in size from overhead to smaller works, accompanied by the presence of this rock legend.

Mellencamp began his painting endeavours at a similar time that his music career was kicking off, but began to focus more heavily on oil paint and portraiture in the 1980s. His work is influenced by German expressionist painters, such as Otto Dix and Max Beckman.

Gallery owner Ted Vassilev states that when he first visited Mellencamp in his studio in Indiana, “[they] started talking about how [they] can make things happens, and it took [them] 12 years, but [he] is very happy with the final outcome.” Ted Vassilev goes on to speak about the power in Mellencamp’s portraits and the story that each portrait tells without saying a word.. “It’s almost like you are reading a novel,” Vassilev claims.

Receiving much praise throughout all steps of this exhibition, a few pieces have already sold and the rest will be on display at DTR Modern Galleries in SoHo.
