Curated by Jasmine Arakel, the Arlo Living Room Gallery Series is dedicated to democratizing contemporary art by bringing it into publicly accessible spaces within Arlo Hotels. This summer, in a dynamic partnership with DTR Modern Galleries, we are thrilled to present an exclusive exhibition of paintings by the esteemed Halim Flowers.
DTR Modern Galleries discovered Halim Flowers in 2019 after he was released from prison from previous commitment to a wrongful life sentence. Flowers emerged from his crucible of suffering with an indomitable spirit and an unwavering commitment to spreading love and compassion to all corners of the world. His artistic talents were swiftly recognized, earning him prestigious fellowships from the Halcyon Arts Lab and Echoing Green, and propelling him into the spotlight as a champion of criminal justice reform and artistic excellence. His TEDx Talk, ”Criminal Justice Reform,” electrified audiences with its impassioned plea for social change, while his prolific production and exhibition of visual art captivated the imagination of art lovers worldwide. His participation in The Museum of Modern Art’s groundbreaking exhibit, “Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration,” heralded his emergence as a leading voice in the fight for justice. His existence and artistry now transcends the bounds of expression to become a beacon of hope for all; he is a force in the current art world.
Halim Flowers will be present at this opening and will be engaging in a discussion with DTR Modern’s own Avalon Bellos, regarding his exhibited works and the inspiration driving them. This is also a unique opportunity to purchase one of these captivating pieces.
